“We need to continue improving all aspects of our business, responding creatively to the short-term pressures of the current environment while also capitalizing on the long-term opportunities. This includes sharpening our CR focus.”

One of the major advances in this field during 2008 was the development of our Group-wide CR strategy. Although we have been active in Corporate Responsibility (CR) for more than 140 years, we did not have a coordinated CR agenda at Group level. Interestingly until this year our operating companies spontaneously developed their CR initiatives, without central direction, demonstrating that CR is a natural expression of who we are.
